Chelsea transfers: Porto won’t drop Eliaquim Mangala asking price
Chelsea transfers: Porto president Pinto Da Costa says the club won't sell Eliaquim Mangala for less than their asking price
Porto have insisted that they won’t consider dropping their asking price for Eliaquim Mangala as Chelsea continue to be linked with the defender.
The France international has impressed for the Portuguese champions since completing a move to Estádio do Dragão from Standard Liege in 2011.
The 22-year-old scored four goals in 30 top-flight appearances as Porto topped their league last season, sparking interest from Europa League winners Chelsea.
The Blues reportedly view the Congo-born centre-half as a potential long-term successor for captain John Terry, but Porto warned Mangala’s suitors that the defender’s £42.4m contract release clause would have to be met.
“This footballer only leaves our club if someone pays the release clause,” Porto president Pinto Da Costa told A Bola.
Mangala rose to prominence at Belgian side Standard Liege after making his debut aged 17 and racking up 100 appearances in three seasons.
On Tuesday, Chelsea confirmed a reported £18m deal for Germany international Andre Schürrle, who becomes the first signing of Jose Mourinho’s second reign at the Blues.
