Chelsea transfers: Van Gaal backs Sneijder to join the Blues
Chelsea transfers: Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal backs Wesley Sneijder's touted move to the Blues this summer
Louis van Gaal has backed Wesley Sneijder’s proposed move to Chelsea from Galatasaray this summer.
The 29-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Blues after it was reported that Chelsea officials were in attendance to watch their target score in the Netherlands’ 2-0 friendly win against China on Tuesday.
And Oranje manager Van Gaal believes a reunion for Sneijder with ex-Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge would help him keep a closer eye on his star midfielder’s performances.
“It would be much easier for me to keep an eye on his progress if he were to make the move to Chelsea,” said Van Gaal.
“I could be at Chelsea within an hour from the Netherlands, and [Jose] Mourinho is a friend of mine.”
Earlier this week, Galatasaray revealed that they will listen to offers of around £12.75m for Sneijder, as the cash-rich Turkish champions look to freshen up their squad in a bid to retain their title.
Van Gaal recently stripped Sneijder of the Dutch captaincy in favour of Manchester United’s Robin van Persie due to problems on and off the pitch, but insists the midfielder is keen to continue working with the national set-up.
“I had a good talk about it with Wesley and he’s dealing with the situation pretty well. I have no doubt that everybody will help him,” Van Gaal added.
