Daniel Agger should be Liverpool’s vice-captain, says Robbie Fowler
Former Liverpool skipper Robbie Fowler believes Daniel Agger is the perfect candidate to become the club's new vice-captain
Robbie Fowler believes Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is the best candidate to become the club’s new vice-captain.
The Reds are yet to appoint Jamie Carragher’s successor in the role after the 35-year-old retired at the end of the season following a decorated 16-year career.
In a recent poll on the club’s website, Denmark international Agger was the supporters’ preferred choice to act as Brendan Rodgers’ second-in-command.
And Fowler, who previously captained the Reds, reckons the 28-year-old centre-half is the best choice ahead of other candidates, such as Lucas Leiva, Pepe Reina and Luis Suárez.
“There are a few players that we could opt for,” Fowler told Liverpool’s website.
“I know the website has recently done a vote and I think they have all voted for Daniel Agger. It probably makes sense, to be honest, so I’d probably opt for him. He’s a great player.
“When I re-signed, he actually signed the day before me. I would say that would probably not be a bad choice.”
Agger, who recently reiterated his desire to stay at the Merseyside outfit, has scored 12 goals in 209 appearances for the Reds following a £6m move to Anfield from Brondby in 2006.
