Edinson Cavani set to reject transfer to Chelsea or Man City
Edinson Cavani looks set to turn down the chance to move to Chelsea or Manchester City this summer to join Real Madrid
Edinson Cavani is set to turn down the chance to move to Chelsea or Manchester City this summer in favour of joining Real Madrid, according to the player’s father.
The Napoli forward has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Premier League in recent months, with City and the Blues both keen to lure the 26-year-old to England.
However, the player’s father has now insisted that the Uruguay international has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid, who he has already held preliminary talks with.
“Cavani’s intention is to play for Madrid,” Luis Cavani told Futboleros. “He is excited about it and is very willing to see it through.
“He has told the family in private that he wants to join Real Madrid but if he declares it publicly it will annoy Napoli.
“There has been contact with Real Madrid’s lawyers and now we are waiting for the two clubs to meet.
“I hope it happens and that talks take place as soon as possible. Who wouldn’t want to play for Real Madrid?
“It’s not just up to Edi. They are talking about 65 million euros and Napoli won’t negotiate for any less.”
Cavani, who has 49 caps for Uruguay, scored 29 goals in 35 Serie A appearances last season.
