Henning Berg: Man United’s Wilfried Zaha is fantastically exciting
Former Blackburn Rovers manager Henning Berg says Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha is a "fantastically exciting player"
Henning Berg has described Manchester United forward Wilfried Zaha as a “fantastically exciting player”.
The 20-year-old, who is currently part of Stuart Pearce’s England side at the Under-21 European championship this month, completed a £10m move to Old Trafford in January.
Zaha was immediately loaned back to Crystal Palace and inspired the London side to a play-off triumph, scoring twice in the semi-finals.
Berg witnessed Zaha’s talent when his Blackburn side took on Palace earlier this season before he was sacked, and the Norwegian defender was impressed by the youngster’s “great potential”.
“We played against Palace in my first game with Blackburn,” Berg told United’s website. “He is a very good, talented player.
“He is not the finished article but he has got great potential. He’s quick, with good dribbling skills, a good attitude and did particularly well in the play-off semi-final with Brighton when he scored two goals.
“What he needs to keep developing is his goalscoring ability and assists in front of goal but he’s a fantastically exciting player, especially if he can be even more effective in terms of his passing and goals.
“There is no doubt he’s got potential and you can see why he is going to United at that early age. However, there is going to be competition for places and he is going to have to handle coming to a big club like United and not playing every game every week.
“So it will be about being patient and looking to develop his game, while taking his chances when he gets them. That is maybe the biggest difference in playing at United compared to other clubs – there is more competition for places and you must be patient.”
