Jesús Navas has backed Manchester City to fight for the Premier League title next season after completing a move to the Eastlands outfit.

The 27-year-old finalised his reported £14.9m switch to the Citizens from Sevilla on Tuesday after passing a medical in New York, where he is on international duty with Spain.

Navas is City’s second signing of the summer following Fernandinho’s arrival last week, and the winger is thrilled to join an “amazing” squad of players capable of challenging for silverware.

“I know he enjoys the city and that the club has a great team. And then there are important players like [Carlos] Tevez, [Pablo] Zabaleta and [Gael] Clichy. They are at City because they offer something special,” Silva said.

“Above all, individually City have so many good players, and I like the idea of playing there with such good, amazing players and fighting for a title, because I feel we have a good team to do that.”

City are still to name Roberto Mancini’s successor, with Manuel Pellegrini favourite to replace the Italian at Etihad Stadium.

And Navas believes he will offer the new manager another option in terms of pace and width, elements which City lacked in wide areas last season.

“I’m able to make the field wider,” he added. “It’s important to be dangerous on the pitch. I play with pace and will be dangerous.

“Everything about football in England is exciting. It’s fast, it’s end-to-end. It was an idea I had to come to the Premier League and enjoy this kind of
game.

“I’m excited by the team, by the challenge to win important titles and to be at a stadium like the Etihad. I feel we’ll do great.

“Pressure can make the game more exciting and force us to always play at our best. If you have that pressure it means you’re doing things the right way.”
