Liverpool will face Celtic in a pre-season friendly at Aviva Stadium in Dublin on 10 August, it has been confirmed.
The Reds’ first-team have not travelled to the Republic of Ireland since 1998, while Celtic are returning to the Aviva having featured in the Dublin Super Cup in 2011.
The friendly, which has been named the Dublin Decider, will kick-off at 17:30, with the Hoops securing a 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the last meeting between these sides in the Uefa Cup in 2003.
“We last played Celtic almost a decade ago so we are thrilled to get this event in our pre-season calendar,” said Liverpool’s chief commercial officer Billy Hogan.
“Both at Liverpool and Celtic, we are fortunate to have two of the most passionate fan bases in the world and this fixture in Dublin is a chance to bring them together once again.”
Irish minister of state for tourism and sport Michael Ring said: “This is going to be a fantastic event, and I’m excited about it already.
“It’s not every day that you can welcome two famous clubs from overseas with such strong Irish connections.
“I want to thank the FAI and both clubs for organising this game, and I look forward to greeting the fans when they come to Ireland.”
