Liverpool deserve another season from Luis Suárez, says John Aldridge
Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes Luis Suárez owes the Reds at least another season
John Aldridge believes Liverpool deserve another season from Luis Suárez after the striker confirmed his desire to leave Anfield.
The Uruguay international admitted he wanted a “change of environment” which prompted the Reds to release a statement insisting the 26-year-old is not for sale on Friday.
The former Ajax forward is currently serving a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanović during a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in April after scoring 23 Premier League goals this season.
The Reds have shown their unwavering support for the controversial striker since he moved to Anfield in January 2011, and Aldridge believes Suárez should stay at the Reds for another season.
“It does look ominous,” Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo.
“I became worried when Suárez brought his family into the equation. That’s like playing your ‘get out of jail free’ card.
“If he’s saying his family aren’t happy then there’s nothing you can do about it.
“It’s rubbish to blame the press and I’d rather he was just honest about it.
“If he just came out and said he wants Champions League football next season then I think people would be more understanding.
“My grandson noticed that there isn’t a picture of Suárez promoting the new kit outside Anfield. They are using Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Glen Johnson instead. He didn’t want Suárez No7 on the back because even he thinks he’s leaving!
“The club and the fans have stuck by him through thick and thin, and I think we deserve another season out of him. But players are so powerful these days that if someone wants to leave then they will.”
