Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard a cut above the rest, says Craig Bellamy
Cardiff City striker Craig Bellamy says the best player that he played with in his career was Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard
Craig Bellamy has admitted Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is a “cut above” any other player that the Welshman has played with in his career.
The 33-year-old striker spent two spells at the Merseyside outfit – in 2006 and 2011 – and was impressed by the England captain’s ability and performances.
“Gerrard was everything I expected and more. He was a cut above anyone I’ve ever played with. He had so much in his locker,” Bellamy said in his autobiography, GoodFella.
“He is an immense player but because he is streaks ahead of everyone – even someone like Alonso – he put too much onus on himself to do everything.
“There were days we knew that if we were going to win, Stevie was going to have to be at his best. He knew that too, and that is a lot of pressure to carry around on your shoulders.
He added: “What makes him so good? Well, there is nothing he can’t do. He is clever. He sees the game quicker than anyone else. He sees the picture.
“He can play the ball first time around corners that aren’t even there. He has got intelligence.
“He has got physical attributes. He can bomb past people. He is quick. He is a powerful, proper athlete. Give him a header, he will score.”
Bellamy scored 13 goals in 51 appearances for the Reds in his two spells at Anfield.
