Itching to get back! Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard eyes return from injury
Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard says he feels strong and is itching to return to full training after a back operation in May
Steven Gerrard says he feels strong following his back surgery and the Liverpool captain is “itching” to start the new season.
The 33-year-old underwent an operation on a reoccurring back injury in May which had hampered the midfielder during the second half of the season.
Gerrard rolled back the years with an impressive return of nine goals and nine assists in 34 Premier League appearances last term.
And the England skipper allayed fears over his rehabilitation from the surgery ahead of pre-season and expects to return to full training in July.
“It’s going well and feeling strong,” Gerrard told Liverpool’s website.
“I’m six weeks down the line with the rehabilitation from surgery.
“I’m not too far away, maybe a couple of weeks away from contact and being back in full training if everything goes well. I’m looking forward to it.
“It’s probably the longest break I’ve had at this time of year – being out of the game for six weeks is enough, I’m itching to get back.”
