Iago Aspas insists he didn’t think twice about joining Liverpool, with the Celta Vigo forward set to seal his transfer to Anfield next week.

The 25-year-old, who scored 12 goals and made seven assists in 34 La Liga games last season, is on the verge of securing a £7.7m move to Merseyside.

And the Spaniard insists he was always keen on a move to Liverpool despite late interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the striker.

“I did not hesitate when I heard that Liverpool wanted me,” Aspas is quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper Marca.

“I’m quietly confident, but very excited about this new challenge. This is clearly a huge step forward for me.

“Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I could have moved to other teams and countries, but I quickly decided that I wanted to be in England.”

Aspas is expected to sign a four-year deal with Liverpool next week.

And Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina is looking forward to the arrival of his compatriot.

“I haven’t played with him or against him,” said Reina. “He is much younger than me and during my time in England is when he came through the different divisions at Celta.

“I know as much as I have seen on TV and I think he is a great player and could be a great addition.”
