Liverpool transfers: Martin Skrtel set to discuss future with the Reds
Liverpool transfers: Martin Skrtel's agent says the defender will have talks with the Reds next week amid interest from Napoli
Martin Skrtel is set to hold talks with Liverpool next week amid interest from Napoli, according to the defender’s agent.
The 27-year-old endured his “worst season” since moving to Liverpool in 2008 as he was benched by Brendan Rodgers in the second half of the campaign.
Skrtel, who penned a long-term deal last summer to end speculation linking him with Manchester City, is reportedly a target for new Napoli boss Rafael Benítez.
But his agent, Karol Csonto, says the Naples outfit have not been in touch and the centre-half is planning to sit down with the Reds and discuss his future next week.
“There has been no contact between the two clubs. Martin has a contract with Liverpool and it is important to honour that,” Skrtel’s agent told Radio Crc.
“Obviously Napoli know Martin well, but there cannot be any contact between us and them if they do not first reach an agreement with Liverpool.
“I will be in England next week to talk with Liverpool and define Martin’s future.”
Skrtel has scored nine goals in 206 appearances for the Reds after completing a £6.5m move to Anfield from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.
