Liverpool transfers: Steven Gerrard says he is excited by Brendan Rodgers' signings this summer
Steven Gerrard admits he is excited by the new arrivals at Liverpool this summer.
The 33-year-old was forced to miss the final four Premier League games of the season after the Liverpool captain underwent surgery on a recurring back problem.
Brendan Rodgers has moved swiftly to strengthen his squad with Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas, Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure all being snapped up in the past five weeks.
And Gerrard is pleased to see the Liverpool manager build his squad ahead of the club’s bid to finish in the top four next season.
“Especially with the news of us making a few signings, I’m really looking forward to getting started,” Gerrard told Liverpool’s website.
“It’s always important to get faces in as soon as possible; they can get a full pre-season under their belt, get to know the lads and how the manager wants to play.
“There are some exciting names in there so everyone is excited.”
Although the Liverpool captain isn’t well-schooled on Spanish duo Alberto and Aspas, Gerrard insisted he has faith in Rodgers’ judgement and is relishing the chance to work with the new signings.
“I know very little about them, but I have got a lot belief and confidence in Brendan and the scouting department that they are going to make the right decisions and I have seen bits and bobs of new signings we have made,” he added.
“I am really looking forward to getting back to work next week and seeing what the new players have got to offer and see if they can help strengthen our squad to put in a better fight for a top-four finish.”
