Luis Alberto: I joined Liverpool because of Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool's new signing Luis Alberto says he joined the Reds because of the club's manager Brendan Rodgers
Luis Alberto says he joined Liverpool because of Brendan Rodgers and the club’s footballing philosophy.
The Sevilla forward finally sealed a much-anticipated move to the Reds – for a reported £7m – and signed a long-term contract at the 18-time English champions.
The 20-year-old possesses a style of play to Rodgers’ other signings, such as Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge, after scoring 11 goals and making 17 assists during a season-long loan to Barcelona B last term.
“I came to the club because of the manager,” Alberto, whose move is subject to international clearance, told Liverpool’s website. “I came here because of the style of football he plays.
“I don’t have a favourite position – it depends on the team’s tactics really. I like to move about and I don’t mind where I play.
“I like to play with freedom. I’m a technical player. I provide assists and in the penalty area I score goals.”
Meanwhile, Rodgers admitted he was thrilled to see the Sevilla forward join the Reds as the Liverpool boss looks to bolster his attacking options.
“We are all delighted that Luis has decided to join Liverpool,” Rodgers said.
“He has the correct footballing profile and mentality to be a Liverpool player.
“I look forward to working with him to develop his talent and he joins a group of young exciting players at our club.”
