Fiorentina are still interested in Mario Gómez amid interest from Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, according to the club’s chief executive Sandro Mencucci.

The Germany international appears set to leave Bayern Munich this summer after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot at the Champions League winners.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his attacking options, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe currently the only recognised front-men at the club.

Fiorentina were reported to have won the race to sign Gómez but the forward’s agent Uli Ferber rubbished those claims earlier this month.

However, La Viola chief Mencucci says the Serie A outfit are still weighing up a move for the German forward.

“It’s clear that Mario Gómez is one of the players that we are interested in,” Mencucci told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I can also say that he considers Fiorentina to be one of the clubs he would think about joining if he decides to change clubs.”

Gómez has 113 goals in 174 appearances for Bayern after completing a move to Allianz Arena from Stuttgart in 2009.
