Man City transfers: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says defender Pepe is not for sale amid reports of Citizens interest
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists Pepe is not for sale amid reported interest from Manchester City.
The Citizens look set to appoint Manuel Pellegrini as Roberto Mancini’s successor after the Chilean left Málaga following their 4-2 loss to Barcelona last weekend.
Pepe is rumoured to be high on Pellegrini’s wish list if he takes over at The Etihad, but Perez is adamant the controversial defender won’t be sold this summer.
“Pepe is for for sale and will not move this summer, at least that’s my opinion,” Perez told Onda Cero.
Perez also rubbished claims that he wants to sell talisman Cristiano Ronaldo or long-serving goalkeeper Iker Casillas.
“I never said he [Ronaldo] wanted to go,” he added. “And I cannot imagine a future without Casillas.”
With Jose Mourinho sealing his much-anticipated return to Chelsea, Real Madrid are on the search for a new manager to take over the helm in the Spanish capital.
And Perez believes Paris Saint-Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti would be a very good fit for Los Blancos but is unsure whether the Ligue 1 champions would allow the Italian to leave.
“He would fit very well into the Real Madrid culture,” said Perez.
“He knows how to handle big players and is a good coach, what happens next is down to PSG.”
