Man City transfers: Citizens captain Vincent Kompany says the club must strengthen over the summer
Vincent Kompany has urged Manchester City to strengthen over the summer to keep in touch with their Premier League title rivals.
The Citizens’ reign as English champions ended after Manchester United won their 13th Premier League crown by a staggering 11-point margin this season.
City suffered further disappointment following a 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup final, culminating in Roberto Mancini getting sacked last month.
And Kompany wants the Eastlands outfit to spend during the summer transfer window to ensure the club are challenging for top honours next season.
“I’ve seen every single club strengthen every season. Teams can come from nowhere and win the league,” he told the Sun.
“You cannot rule out Liverpool, Tottenham and even Everton were really good this year. Then you have the usuals like Arsenal, Chelsea and United. But
there is a chance to strengthen our team and compete again for the league.”
Kompany, who captained City to the Premier League crown in 2012, has scored seven goals in 200 top-flight appearances since completing a £6m move from Hamburg in 2008.
