Man United transfers: Monaco’s Ranieri braced for Mendy exit
Man United transfers: Monaco manager Claudio Ranieri says he is frustrated by Nampalys Mendy's attitude
Claudio Ranieri has admitted he is frustrated by Nampalys Mendy’s intention to leave Monaco amid reported interest from Manchester United.
The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils after the holding midfielder helped Monaco win the Ligue 2 title last season.
Ranieri, who has described Mendy as Monaco’s Claude Makelele, is disappointed the France Under-21 international won’t sign a new deal at the club.
And the Red Devils look like favourites to sign the Frenchman, who will be available on a free transfer this summer.
“I do not understand his attitude,” said the Italian. “As soon as I saw him play, I said here is our Makelele. I trusted him and I played him.
“I think he will miss out on a great deal. But it’s his life, not mine. He has preferred to listen to his brother and agent and not his coach. It’s a shame.”
Mendy has made 80 appearances for Monaco after making his first-team debut against Lyon in August 2010.
