Man United’s David De Gea: It will be a pleasure to work with David Moyes
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea says it will be a pleasure to work with new Red Devils boss David Moyes
David De Gea says it will be a pleasure to work with new Manchester United manager David Moyes.
The Spain international was brought to Old Trafford by Moyes’ predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson, with the 21-year-old flourishing into one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers last season.
De Gea, who is currently competing at the Under-21 European championships in Israel, is relishing the chance to work the former Everton manager after two seasons under United legend Ferguson.
“It was a surprise to us all that Ferguson left,” De Gea said. “But we know that when we get back to training he [Moyes] will be there and it is going to be a pleasure to work with him.”
De Gea’s Spain are one of the favourites to win the tournament and the United shot stopper has his sights firmly on back-to-back European championships.
And the former Atletico Madrid man admitted he was surprised to see Stuart Pearce’s England crash out of the competition without winning a single point
in the group stage.
“I’m surprised with England as I would have expected them to have put up more of a fight and win more points,” De Gea added.
“I thought they would have been in the semi-finals, but that is football. Sometimes these things happen.”
De Gea has made 80 appearances for United after completing a £17m move to Old Trafford from Atletico in 2011.
