Man City’s Samir Nasri: I had the chance to join Man United
Manchester City's Samir Nasri reveals he could have joined Manchester United but was impressed by the Citizens' ambition
Samir Nasri has revealed he had the chance to join Manchester United but opted to complete a switch to ambitious Manchester City.
The 25-year-old sealed a £25m move to the Citizens from Arsenal in 2011 after earning a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting midfielders during his three seasons in north London.
And the France international claims that he had the chance to join the Red Devils two summers ago but decided to join City because of the club’s potential.
“Yes, they [United] entered into the equation but I preferred to choose Manchester City because I think it is the club of the future,” Nasri told City’s website.
“They have invested a lot in the last three years and now they have got the team that can fight for every competition. I want to be part of the history. That’s why I made this choice and I’m happy about it.
“I am convinced that we can win the Premier League. That is why I chose this club. I am really confident about what we can achieve together.”
Nasri also insisted he is up for the challenge of fighting for a first-team place after the Citizens signed Fernandinho and Jesus Navas in June.
And the midfielder is not fazed by the increased competition for places, adding that he is not considering a move away from the one-time Premier League champions.
“Of course I’m up to the challenge and the competition will just make us better,” Nasri added.
“When you are a player, you have ambition and you play for this kind of competition. Of course I am ready to challenge. If not, I will be in my neighbourhood playing with my friends.”
