‘Man United manager David Moyes is like Sir Alex Ferguson in lots of ways’
Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United boss David Moyes is like Sir Alex Ferguson in lots of ways and will be a big success
Harry Redknapp believes David Moyes is like Sir Alex Ferguson in lots of ways and backed the new Manchester United manager to be a big success.
The 50-year-old will officially succeed Ferguson when he signs a six-year deal with the Red Devils on 1 July after calling time on his 11-year Everton reign.
And Queens Park Rangers manager Redknapp expects Moyes to make a few additions to his United squad during the summer as the Scot tries to stamp his own identity on the club.
“I think David is a great choice. I’m pleased to see a British manager get a job like that at a top club. I’m sure David will do well,” Redknapp told the Manchester Evening News.
“He’s a bit like Fergie in lots of ways. He’s very dedicated to the job and he knows what he wants. I’m sure he’ll get it there. He’ll change things round, I’m sure.
“He’s bringing his own staff in and I think he’ll make one or two other changes.
“I’m sure he’ll sign a few players to put his stamp on the team and I’m sure he’ll be a big success.
“It’s a massive job. It’s a hard job but it’s a great job. It’s one of the big clubs in world football. It’s a fantastic football club and a great opportunity for him.”
And Redknapp backed Moyes’ decision to bring in his own backroom staff after it was confirmed coaches Mike Phelan and Eric Steele would be leaving Old Trafford.
“Everyone’s got their own opinions,” added Redknapp.
“But I think you need your own people around you. You need to know people are on your side and be able to trust them and talk to them. I think everybody wants that around them. There’s lots of downtime in this game and you need people around you who you know are with you.
“Alex had a great staff and I’m sure they’ll go on and work elsewhere. But David loved his staff at Everton and he’s brought them with him.”
