Rio Ferdinand believes it would be “phenomenal” to win the Premier League title under David Moyes at the first attempt.

The 50-year-old manager is set to sign a six-year deal at Old Trafford on 1 July after being confirmed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at the end of the season.

Moyes failed to win the top-flight crown during 11 years with Everton, and Ferdinand reckons it would be a “special” feat to retain United’s Premier League title next term.

“To win the league under David Moyes would be phenomenal,” Ferdinand told the Sun.

“Last season was one of the best when we won title No 20 but this could go beyond that.

“To win it at the first attempt with a new man in charge would be something special.”

Ferdinand believes Moyes has the right attitude to succeed as United’s manager and backed the former Toffees boss to build on Ferguson’s legacy.

“Moyes is a real football man and an honest guy,” Ferdinand added.

“His hard working ethic reflects the man himself and he obviously wants success. We’ve got a great chance with this manager.

“Every year when we have the end-of-season party we are thinking about the next season and what we are going to do.

“We always talk about improving on the previous season. That was no different this year just because the manager has changed.”
