Newcastle transfers: Monaco express interest in Yohan Cabaye
Newcastle transfers: Monaco chief executive Vadim Vasilyev says Magpies midfielder Yohan Cabaye is an "exciting player"
Monaco have expressed an interest in signing Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye.
The cash-rich Ligue 1 side have already bought Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao and Porto duo João Moutinho and James Rodríguez this summer.
Last week, Cabaye expressed his interest in a potential move to newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester United.
And Monaco chief executive Vadim Vasilyev admitted the former Lille playmaker is an exciting proposition, while also praising former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal.
“Yohan Cabaye? He is an exciting player,” Monaco CEO Vasilyev told L’Equipe.
“And Abidal is a strong player. If he could come back to Le Championnat everyone would be delighted.”
Last Friday, Cabaye admitted he would like to join the Red Devils after a disappointing season at the Magpies, with Alan Pardew’s men finishing 16th in the Premier League.
“Yes, of course. I’ve liked this club [United] for a long time, I like what they do,” he told Canal+.
“The boss has left but they have appointed a very good successor and he did some good things with Everton.
“They are always well played among the big clubs. Yes, for sure, it would be an interesting challenge.”
