Robin van Persie: Arjen Robben is an example for us all to follow
Robin van Persie says Arjen Robben's recent success is an example of how quickly a players' fortunes can change in football
Robin van Persie believes Arjen Robben’s recent success is an example of how quickly fortunes can change in football.
Robben was criticised for his performances for Bayern Munich towards the end of last season as the Bundesliga side were beaten by Chelsea in the Champions League final and were pipped to the German title by Borussia Dortmund.
However, the 29-year-old Netherlands midfielder played an integral role in helping his side win an historic Treble this season, scoring the winner in last month’s final against Dortmund at Wembley and helping his side win the Bundesliga title and German Cup.
And Manchester United forward Van Persie believes that Robben’s turnaround is a “great example” for footballers everywhere.
“What Robben did shows you that things can change really quickly in football,” Van Persie told Xinhua.
“Arjen had a hard time a couple of months ago as he was not really playing. And then a couple of months later he has three trophies in his pocket. So that’s how quick football life can go.
“You always have a second chance to make things right, fight for trophies again and for your place on the team. In other words, just to enjoy football again. I think Arjen showed that.
“He is a great example for everyone just to keep going even though sometimes it is not going your way. Just keep going and keep on working hard and things can change quickly in football.”
