Sebastian Vettel says he would be happy to work with Kimi Raikkonen as speculation over Mark Webber’s future intensifies
Sebastian Vettel has admitted that he would be happy to work with Kimi Raikkonen, as speculation about Mark Webber’s future at Red Bull intensifies.
The three-time world champion has had several high profile spats with his Australian team-mate, including a recent incident at the Malaysian Grand Prix in which the German disobeyed team orders to overtake Webber and claim victory.
It has been suggested that Webber will not be at Red bull next season due to the pair’s fractious relationship.
And speaking ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Vettel did little to douse the flames on rumours about Webber’s possible departure as he openly spoke about the prospect of Renault’s Kimi Raikkonen racing alongside him next year.
“I don’t know how realistic that is, but I get along very well with him,” said Vettel.
“We see each other at races and – time permitting – also between the events. We are both uncomplicated, straightforward, and honest. We get along fine.”
But upon being quizzed further about the mine-field that is the relationship between team-mates, Vettel suggested that two drivers may never be considered to be friends.
“’Friends’ is perhaps a bit exaggerated,” said the German. “True friends, people you trust with everything, those do not exist in Formula 1.”
