Shinji Kagawa says he wants to be like Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
The Japan international had an indifferent first season at the newly-crowned Premier League champions after scoring six goals 20 top-flight appearances.
Kagawa, who joined United in a £17m deal from Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund, will feature for Japan at the Confederations Cup this summer.
And the 24-year-old hopes to be Japan’s own Rooney or Van Persie as the playmaker looks to discover his best form in Brazil before the new season.
“I wasn’t satisfied with my overall performance but I played well in the second half of the season and started to get more and more confidence,” Kagawa told Sports Illustrated.
“Hopefully, I can keep that going at the Confederations Cup.
“In this business, you need to be like Rooney or van Persie and prove yourself if you want the ball.
“I want to be a player like them, which means I need results.”
Kagawa scored 29 goals in 71 appearances for Dortmund before competing his big-money move to the Red Devils last summer.
