Steven Gerrard is hoping that Manchester United suffer a “wobble” under new manager David Moyes next season – but expects the Red Devils to fight for the title.

Moyes was announced as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford last month and is set to officially take over at the club on 1 July.

And although Liverpool midfielder Gerrard is hoping that the Red Devils slip up following the managerial change, the 33-year-old is still backing United to launch a strong defence of their Premier League crown.

“They have replaced a world-class manager with another who has done a fantastic job at Everton, so I think David will continue to do a good job there,” Gerrard told Sky Sports News.

“It is new for Manchester United. From a biased point of view, let’s hope they have a wobble, but I think they have too many good players to fall out of the title race.

“They have world-class players and I expect them to fight for the league again.”
