Swansea City’s Michu: Premier League is superior to La Liga
Swansea City striker Michu says the Premier League is superior to La Liga after an impressive debut campaign in English top flight
Michu believes the Premier League is superior to La Liga after the Swansea City striker enjoyed a fruitful first season in the English top flight.
The Spanish forward emerged as one of the buys of the season after the 27-year-old arrived at the Liberty Stadium from Rayo Vallecano for a nominal fee of just £2m in July.
His transition into English football was as smooth as any, and he took the league by storm, scoring an impressive 22 goals in his debut campaign.
Michu rates the Premier League highly, and he suggested that Real Madrid and Barcelona are the only Spanish clubs safe from England’s spending power.
He said in the Sun: “The Premier League is superior in all aspects.
“The structure, the fans, the competitiveness and, most of all, the economic power.
“Any English club can now buy a Spanish player of any team except Madrid or Barca.
“The Spanish market is very good value for money.
“And the success of talented little players like Juan Mata, David Silva and Santi Carzola has proved a phenomenon in England.”
Michu was a vital component for much of the success that Michael Laurdrup and his side enjoyed this season as he helped guide the Welsh club to their first League Cup victory in their 100-year history.
And the Spaniard highlighted the monumental contribution of the supporters in making the Premier League a “special competition”.
He added: “The English league is much more competitive than it is in Spain.
“Here you can win at any ground. In Spain it is impossible to go to the Nou Camp or the Bernabeu and expect to succeed.
“The passion of fans in England is fantastic. Your supporters follow you to all your away games.
“And because of the way it is organised, they can also plan their trips for the whole season.”
