Tottenham’s AVB braced for ‘difficult’ opening clash at Crystal Palace
Tottenham's Andre Villas-Boas says he is braced for a "difficult" opening fixture against Crystal Palace on the first day of the season
Andre Villas-Boas says he is braced for a “difficult” opening fixture when Tottenham Hotspur travel to Crystal Palace on the first day of the season.
Spurs were pitted against Ian Holloway’s newly-promoted side after the Premier League fixtures for the 2013-14 campaign were released on Wednesday.
“Selhurst Park is always a difficult stadium to go to, it’s a London derby and a tough start,” Villas-Boas told Spurs’ website.
Tottenham host Swansea City at White Hart Lane in their first home Premier League game before a trip to north London rivals Arsenal in their third fixture of the new campaign.
“At certain times of the season we have compact fixtures with the top teams again,” he continued.
“So, for example, last season we had Arsenal and then Manchester City, both away, and we have the same this time.
“November and December is when we gathered many points last season and we will look to do the same again. This time we go to Old Trafford on New Year’s Day, a huge game.
“I’m looking forward to next season. I think there will be big changes in every team and the managerial changes will see different ways of playing. Other teams will look to create strong teams and we will look to do the same, and build a strong, competitive side.”
