David Luiz is backing Paulinho to impress for Tottenham next season as the Brazil international edges closer to a move to White Hart Lane.

The north Londoners are understood to have agreed a £17m deal with Corinthians for the 24-year-old, who is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup.

And Chelsea defender Luiz is convinced that the midfielder will be a success in the Premier League.

“Paulinho is a fantastic player, both defending and attacking,” Luiz told Goal.

“He is complete, so he can come to England. It’s a great moment for him.”

Luiz’s comments come after Corinthians president president Mario Gobbi Filho confirmed that Paulinho’s departure from the Brazilian club is “imminent”.

“Besides the signings we also suffered harassment from the world’s top clubs for some of our key players,” said Filho in a statement.

“We make every effort to keep them but we have to evaluate the good proposals and understand the goals and aspirations of life of each of our athletes.

“With the imminent departure of Paulinho we trust in football other players that are being prepared for some time, as William and Edenilson, or even the newly hired Ibson.”
