Tottenham transfers: Gareth Bale not for sale, insists Andre Villas-Boas
Tottenham transfers: Andre Villas-Boas insists Spurs won't contemplate selling Real Madrid target Gareth Bale this summer
Andre Villas-Boas has reiterated Tottenham Hotspur are not planning to sell Real Madrid target Gareth Bale this summer.
The north London side have regularly brushed off interest in their talisman from Los Blancos after the Wales winger scored 23 Premier League goals last season.
Madrid sporting director Zinedine Zidane has made no secret of the club’s desire to sign Bale, but Villas-Boas insisted chairman Daniel Levy won’t entertain any offers.
“The chairman said that we are not open to offers, whatever they are, and that the player will stay,” he told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
“In football anything can happen, but these are the guarantees given to me.
“There was a moment last season when Gareth came to me because he was not comfortable out on the pitch.
“I do not know if it was my response or that he was glad to relieve the stress, but after that he became confident and played with freedom.
“He felt important and finished the year in style.”
Earlier this month, Zidane encouraged Bale, who was named PFA player and young player of the season in April, to hand in a transfer request if he wants to leave Spurs.
“I think Real Madrid have made their admiration of Gareth Bale very clear – and it has been made clear that we would not be put off by the cost of the player,” Zidane told the Sunday People.
“But if Gareth feels now is the time to move then he has to have a private discussion with his club and express that he wants to leave.”
