Tottenham transfers: Mario Gómez’s agent denies Fiorentina deal
Tottenham transfers: Mario Gómez's agent says rumours suggesting the striker has agreed to join Fioentina aren't true
Mario Gómez’s agent says the Bayern Munich striker has not agreed to join Fiorentina amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The Germany international appears set to leave the Champions League holders this summer after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot in the Bayern side.
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his attacking options, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe currently the only recognised front-men at the club.
Fiorentina were reported to have won the race to sign Gómez but the forward’s agent Uli Ferber says the rumours are false and his client is still a Munich player.
“That’s not true,” Ferber said when asked if Gómez was set to join Fiorentina.
And Ferber added that Gomez, who has scored 25 goals for Germany, will only leave Bayern for a club that can guarantee the forward first-team football.
“It’s not going to be a major assignment [finding a new club],” Ferber added.
“But one thing is for sure – he will only go to a club where he will be a first-choice striker.”
Gómez has 113 goals in 174 appearances for Bayern after completing a move to Allianz Arena from Stuttgart in 2009.
