Tim Sherwood believes Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale will stay at White Hart Lane beyond the summer.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with Premier League champions Manchester United and Real Madrid after Spurs failed to secure their place in next season’s Champions League.

Bale won the PFA player and young player of the year award after scoring 21 goals in 33 Premier League appearances, and Sherwood believes the Wales international is happy at Tottenham.

“Gareth’s fantastically happy at Tottenham,” Sherwood told the Daily Star.

“I see him around the training ground every day. He’s got a good relationship with the manager and loves his team-mates. They show him the respect that he deserves and he gives it back to them.

“I don’t see him banging the door down trying to get a move. I believe one million per cent he will stay.

“There will be a lot of clubs wanting to take Gareth but he’s 23 and has good advisors.

“There’s a time for him to go overseas or to another Premier League club but I think he needs to stay here.”

Bale has scored 55 goals in 203 appearances for Tottenham after completing a £7m move to Spurs from Southampton in 2007.
