Danny Rose says he has been impressed by Tottenham team-mate Lewis Holtby for Germany at the Under-21 European championships.
Holtby captained Germany and scored a goal and won a penalty in a 3-2 defeat by the Netherlands in their opening group game on Thursday.
The 22-year-old, capped three times by Germany’s senior side, moved to Tottenham back in January and Rose, who spent the season on loan to Sunderland from Spurs, says he felt Holtby “led by example” despite the loss.
“Germany played very well, and Lewis in particular,” said Rose. “We were watching the game in our rooms. They’ve got a lot of positives to take out of it.
“Lewis stood out a great deal, he led his team by example.”
Holtby made 11 Premier League appearances for Tottenham after moving to Spurs from Schalke earlier this year.
