Andy Cole backs Wilfried Zaha to shine at Man United
Andy Cole urges Wilfried Zaha to do his best to impress new Manchester United boss David Moyes ahead of the new season
Andy Cole has urged Wilfried Zaha to do his best to impress new Manchester United boss David Moyes ahead of the new season.
Zaha, who signed for United from Crystal Palace in January before being loaned back for the rest of the 2012-13 campaign, began pre-season training with his new team-mates this week following Moyes’ appointment as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old winger was Ferguson’s last signing before calling time on his career – but former United striker Cole believes that Zaha can force his way into contention right away at Old Trafford under Moyes if he adopts the right approach.
“It’s down to the new manager,” Cole told United’s website.
“Obviously, Sir Alex bought him last season and it’s up to Zaha to come here and put in a shift in pre-season, give it a good go and David Moyes will make his mind up from there.
“I think it’s a good thing that everyone is starting from a clean slate, so to speak, as the new manager is coming in with new ideas and he’ll pick the team as he feels fit for going to win the championship week in and week out.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for Wilfried and that’s why he’s come to Manchester United in the first place – to have that opportunity – and no doubt he’ll enjoy it.”
