Jack Wilshere is hoping that completing a full pre-season schedule for the first time in two years will stand him in good stead for the season ahead with Arsenal.

The 21-year-old has missed the last two pre-season campaigns due to a series of injury problems and the England international believes that has hampered his progress in recent seasons.

The midfielder has expressed his delight at finally getting the chance to build his fitness and says he is “feeling good” ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

“We have a big season coming up and we need to get our fitness levels up,” Wilshere told Arsenal’s website.

“We also have Champions League qualifiers just around the corner and we know what we have to do. It is tough, and this weather doesn’t help, but you need to roll your sleeves up and get on with it.

“The last two years I have missed pre season so to get one under my belt now will be really helpful. I played 25 minutes against Vietnam, so the next step will be to play 45 minutes and go on from there.

“I am feeling good and it is just down to getting the games under my belt and I’m sure the boss will give me them.

“As you get older you realise how important pre-season is. When you’re younger you don’t look forward to it and moan about it.

“The older players always said to make sure I got a good pre-season now I’m a bit more experienced and have had a few injuries [I realise how important it is].

“Hopefully I can get a full one in, and if I can do that and do my training like everyone else then I won’t be playing catch up.”
