Arsene Wenger has reassured Arsenal fans that the Gunners are keen to make “big signings” this summer ahead of the new season.

The north London club have been linked with a host of big names since the end of last season as Wenger looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title following their fourth-place finish.

The Gunners have been reported to be chasing the likes of Wayne Rooney, Luis Suárez, Marouane Fellaini and Gonzalo Higuain this summer.

And when asked if Arsenal are keen on signing any of those four players, Wenger replied: “Yes we are interested.

“First of all, all of those players are under contract and it is the club that decides their contract, they decide if they can go and after, if they go, if they can join us.”

He continued: “This year is very important – we have better financial resources than the years before, resources we have created ourselves.

“We are interested in big signings.”

Arsenal have so far only signed 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre this summer.
