Arsenal transfers: Wenger’s delight at signing ‘promising’ Sanogo
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger reveals his delight after Yaya Sanogo signs for the Gunners on a free transfer
Arsene Wenger has revealed his delight after Arsenal confirmed the signing of Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer on Monday.
The 20-year-old striker joins the north London club on a long-term contract from Auxerre, where he made 24 appearances and scored 11 goals during his time with the Ligue 1 side.
“Sanogo is a good young signing for us. He has shown that he has potential with his recent performances for Auxerre and also for the France Under-20 side,” said Wenger.
“We are looking forward to Yaya joining us and continuing his promising development.”
The deal is subject to the completion of formal registration processes, with Sanogo set to link up with his new team-mates after his participation in the Under-20 World Cup with France.
Auxerre will reportedly receive €450,000 (£386,000) in compensation from Arsenal for the deal.
Speaking last month, Sanogo revealed that a personal visit from Wenger convinced him that a move to Emirates Stadium was the right choice.
“I was very impressed,” said Sanogo. “Wenger had come to see me directly in Paris. He told me that I would have my chance and reassured me about my injury.
“He said he had followed me for many seasons. It was this trip that was decisive in my decision. I opted for Arsenal.”
