Arsenal transfers: Atletico Madrid rubbish claims that they are lining up a bid for Gunners midfielder Santi Cazorla
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has rubbished reports suggesting Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla could seal a move to Vicente Calderon.
The Copa del Rey winners were linked with a move for the 28-year-old midfielder earlier this week after raising funds thanks to the sale of Radamel Falcao to Monaco.
The Spain international scored 12 goals and made 14 assists in 38 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season after completing a £12m move from Malaga last summer.
The former Villarreal playmaker won Arsenal’s player of the season award for his eye-catching performances as the Gunners secured a top-four finish.
But Atletico Madrid president Cerezo, who signed former Arsenal target David Villa last week, played down speculation linking the club with a move for Cazorla.
“We have no news of Cazorla,” Cerezo said. “These are invented stories that are made up every day.”
Cazorla has scored nine goals in 56 appearances for Spain and was part of La Roja’s European championship winning sides of 2008 and 2012.
