Arsenal transfers: Gonzalo Higuaín’s father talks up Gunners move
Arsenal transfers: Gunners are in "very advanced" talks with Real Madrid over Gonzalo Higuaín, claims player's father
Arsenal are in “very advanced” talks with Real Madrid over the transfer of Gonzalo Higuaín, according to the striker’s father.
The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners in recent weeks and the north Londoners are believed to be closing in on a £22m deal for the Argentina international.
Reports last week claimed that Arsenal had already agreed personal terms with the striker, who is also a target for Serie A champions Juventus.
And the player’s father Jorge has now confirmed that a move to the Premier League appears to be close.
“Nothing has been signed yet, but I assure you that the negotiations between the clubs are in a very advanced phase,” Jorge Higuaín is quoted as saying by tuttomercatoweb.com
“We do not negotiate with any club without permission of the selling club.
“I’m sure that Arsenal have made a great offer, just like Juventus.”
Higuaín scored 16 goals and made six assists in 28 La Liga appearances last season, taking his tally to 122 strikes since joining the club from River Plate in 2007.
Speaking earlier this week, Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere revealed his delight at the Gunners’ pursuit of the Real Madrid front-man.
“I’ve never played against him, but anyone who plays for Real Madrid and Argentina has to be quality,” Wilshere told ESPN.
“You look at the type of players like Higuaín we’re trying to bring in and you’ve got to be encouraged.”
