Arsenal transfers: ‘Gunners should act like Liverpool this summer’
Arsenal transfers: Perry Groves urges Gunners to follow Liverpool's lead and be more decisive in the transfer market
Perry Groves has urged Arsenal to follow Liverpool’s lead and be more decisive in the transfer market this summer.
Despite being linked with a host of big names this summer, the Gunners have only signed 20-year-old striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer from Auxerre so far.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have already brought in Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto and Simon Mignolet as the Reds aim to break back into the Champions League next season.
And former Arsenal winger Groves is concerned that the Gunners, who have been linked with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Marouane Fellaini and Luis Suárez, are “dithering” over deals for potential new recruits this summer.
“The longer you leave it, the more other teams come in for those players. I want a bit more decisiveness from Arsenal,” Groves told talkSPORT.
“There’s a bit of dithering going on at Arsenal at the moment. They’ve done it for the last three or four years. You want the club to be really proactive in the transfer market.
“They’ve said that they’ve got money to spend, which I don’t think is a great thing to come out with because players’ price go up.
“Arsenal are three or four players away from being competitive and trying to win the Premier League.
“If you look at the Fellaini situation, I think he’s got a £23.5m release clause in his contract which runs out on 15 August. Now if they really want him, Arsenal should trigger that clause, pay the £23.5m, get his personal terms sorted out and then you have a marquee signing.
“[Arsenal should] be like Liverpool have been. They’ve signed their four players and got them in for pre-season.”
