Arsenal transfers: Jack Wilshere admits he is desperate to see the Gunners sign "big names" this summer
Jack Wilshere admits he is desperate to see Arsenal sign “big names” this summer – and is backing the Gunners to challenge for trophies next season.
The north Londoners have been linked with swoops for a host of top players in recent weeks, including the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suárez.
However, the Gunners have only brought in 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer so far during the current transfer window.
And midfielder Wilshere has revealed that the Arsenal squad are excited about the possibility of at least one marquee signing at Emirates Stadium this summer.
“Everyone at the training ground has been talking about big-name signings,” said Wilshere. “It would give us all such a massive lift. Not just the players but the staff and everybody connected to Arsenal.”
Wilshere, 21, also believes that the managerial changes at Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea could work in Arsenal’s favour next season as the Gunners look to end their eight-year wait for a major trophy.
“Everything has changed at the other top-four clubs,” he added. “Sir Alex Ferguson has gone, Chelsea and City have new managers so we have to set our targets high.
“We showed how good we can be during the run-in last season – we had our destiny put in front of us. We had to win those games to finish in the top four and we stood up to the challenge.
“Now the goal is to play with that kind of consistency all season. If we can, we can definitely win something.”
