Arsenal transfers: Lars Bender ‘absolutely happy’ at Leverkusen
Arsenal transfers: Bayer Leverkusen insist Gunners target Lars Bender is happy at the club and will see out his contract
Bayer Leverkusen insist Arsenal target Lars Bender is “absolutely happy” to stay at the German outfit beyond the summer.
Arsene Wenger had reportedly lodged a £19.7m bid for the highly-rated midfielder as the Arsenal head coach looks to bolster his options.
Bender, who has 14 caps for Germany, scored three goals and made six assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season, prompting interest from the Gunners.
However, Leverkusen, who finished in third place, are not entertaining any offers for the playmaker and hope to keep hold of Bender.
“It’s absolutely normal that there has been interest in him because he is a top-level player who is improving,” a Leverkusen spokesman said.
“But he has a contract until 2017 and he is absolutely happy to stay at Leverkusen.”
The 24-year-old has scored 12 goals in 138 appearances for Leverkusen after joining Sami Hyypia’s side from 1860 Munchen in 2010.
Wenger has also been linked with Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuaín, Napoli striker Edinson Cavani and Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Júlio Cesar this summer.
