Arsenal transfers: Liverpool confirm Gunners bid for Luis Suárez
Liverpool transfers: Ian Ayre confirms Arsenal did make a bid for a want-away Reds striker Luis Suárez
Ian Ayre has confirmed that Liverpool have rejected an offer from Arsenal for want-away striker Luis Suárez.
The Gunners were reported to have launched a £30m bid for the Uruguay international last week, whose future has been a source of constant speculation this summer.
Liverpool have been firm in their stance that the South American, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, is not for sale during the current transfer window.
And Reds managing director Ayre admitted the Gunners made a failed bid to lure the 26-year-old to north London last week, with Real Madrid also reported interested.
“We had an offer which is fairly public from Arsenal,” Ayre told Bloomberg.
“We said no to that offer, and as far as we’re concerned, he turns up for training when he’s due back. We’ll move forward on that basis.
“We get offers for lots of our players at different times. Right now we’d love to see Luis put on a Liverpool shirt for this season and beyond. We hope that once he gets back things will settle down.”
Suárez has scored 51 goals in 96 appearances for the Reds after completing a £22.75m move to Anfield from Ajax in January 2011.
