Arsenal transfers: Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons says he wants to stay at the club despite speculation linking him with Gunners
Maxime Gonalons says he wants to stay and win silverware with Lyon despite speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Arsenal and Napoli.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Lyon’s key players over the past two seasons, helping the club win the Coupe de France in 2012.
Gonalons scored four goals in 42 appearances in all competitions last season, attracting interest from the Gunners and Serie A outfit Napoli.
The France international is aware of speculation linking him with the north London side, but he wants to stay at the Ligue 1 side and continue his development.
“The situation is clear. I’ll stay in Lyon this year because I have to try and learn many things. I want to win with Lyon,” Gonalons told Radio RMC.
“I have been approached and it’s always nice to know that big European clubs are following me, but I understand that the club want to keep me.
“That is good news because it shows that they have big faith in me.”
Gonalons has scored six goals and made eight assists in 148 appearances since the France international made his Lyon debut in 2009.
