Arsenal transfers: We’re ‘working hard’ on signings – Wenger
Arsenal transfers: "We're working hard but are not close to signing anyone," admits Gunners boss Arsene Wenger
Arsene Wenger has reassured Arsenal fans that the north London club are “working hard” to bring in new players this summer – but concedes that they are not currently close to signing anyone.
Luis Suárez is the latest player to be linked with a move to Emirates Stadium after it emerged that the Gunners had a bid for the controversial striker turned down by Liverpool last week.
Arsenal have also been linked with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Gonzalo Higuain in recent weeks, as well as Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
But the Arsenal manager admits that the competition in the transfer market is making it hard for the Frenchman to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
“The competition in Europe is very hard at the moment,” Wenger said.
“There’s a lot of money and not many players. We work hard but we are not close to signing anybody.”
Arsenal have so far only signed 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer this summer.
