Our resident betting expert is backing the Scot to beat Fernando Verdasco, and is tipping the world number one Novak Djokovic to win against Tomas Berdych in four sets.
Elsewhere, the Tipster reckons David Ferrer will edge past Juan Martin del Potro, and Jerzy Janowicz’s clash against his Polish compatriot Lukasz Kubot is likely to throw up a tiebreak.
Murray, who was runner-up at Wimbledon last year, is yet to drop a set at SW19. The British number one faces Spaniard Verdasco for a place in the semi-final. The 26-year-old has won eight of his nine matches against his quarter-final opponent, dropping just two sets in those victories. The Tipster’s opening bet is Murray to beat Verdasco in straight sets at 1/2.
Whilst Djokovic leads the head-to-head 11-2, the Czech seventh seed has registered two victories in three attempts against the Serb at Grand Slams. Djokovic is yet to drop a set at Wimbledon but was pushed hard in the second against Tommy Haas. Berdych won the most recent meeting at the Rome Masters, and the Tipster is backing Djokovic to beat Berdych 3-1 at 5/2.
Despite Del Potro’s big game, Ferrer is still favourite to win this particular last-eight match. Perhaps that’s because the French Open finalist beat his Argentine opponent 6-2 6-3 6-2 at SW19 last year. Ferrer has the better record against the South American, winning six of their 10 meetings. The Tipster is backing Ferrer to beat Del Potro at 4/6.
The Polish pair have never met before this Wimbledon quarter-final. As a result, the Tipster is cautious about predicting a winner here in what should be a close encounter. However, with Janowicz’s big-serving game, Kubot could struggle to beat his 22-year-old compatriot. The Tipster likes the looks of a tiebreak in Kubot against Janowicz at 5/2.
Whilst Ferrer has a great Grand Slam record against his quarter-final opponent, Del Potro could push the Spaniard all the way. Ferrer won 2-1 when the pair last met at the ATP World Tour Finals. However, the 31-year-old’s superior fitness could be the telling factor. The Tipster’s long shot is Ferrer to beat Del Potro at 5/1.
