Branislav Ivanović believes the Chelsea squad will be able to meet Jose Mourinho’s expectations after the Blues boss took charge of his first training session on Monday.

The 50-year-old signed a three-year deal with the west London side in June after the Portuguese coach left Real Madrid to return to the Europa League winners.

Ivanović has never played under Mourinho, who led the club to two Premier League titles in his first reign before leaving in 2007, after being signed from Locomotiv Moscow in 2008.

And the Serbia international expects the Blues squad to improve both individually, and as a whole, under the guidance of the ex-Inter Milan boss.

“We had our first meeting with Mourinho. He looks very impressive which is very pleasing,” Ivanović told B92.

“I think that with him in the future, Chelsea will act as a team, but we will also improve individually.

“I think that he is very important for the club and for the fans, and that we will be able to meet his expectations.”

Ivanovic has scored eight goals in 59 appearances for the Blues after completing a £9.7m switch from Russia to Stamford Bridge.
