Brendan Rodgers hails Liverpool’s ‘outstanding’ Simon Mignolet
Brendan Rodgers reserves special praise for Simon Mignolet following the Belgian's move to Liverpool from Sunderland
Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise on Simon Mignolet following the Belgian’s move to Liverpool from Sunderland.
The 25-year-old moved to Anfield from the Black Cats last month in a £9m deal and could be the Reds’ number one between the posts next term as Pepe Reina edges towards a season-long loan move to Napoli.
The Liverpool boss has been thoroughly impressed by the shot-stopper’s start to life on Merseyside and is backing the goalkeeper to develop into a top player for the Reds.
“Simon Mignolet has been outstanding in his early time here,” said Rodgers.
“You watch his game in training and you think that he was named North East player of the year.
“You think about the players he was up against, not just goalkeepers like Tim Krul, but outfield players as well.
“He is young and fits the profile that I am looking for. I am not necessarily looking for stars. I am looking for players who are hungry to become stars and he is one of them.”
