Branislav Ivanović says he has been left impressed by Jose Mourinho’s first days in charge of Chelsea.

Ivanović and the majority of his team-mates returned to pre-season training last Monday for their first sessions under the Portuguese coach, before jetting out to Bangkok ahead of the Blues’ pre-season tour of Asia.

And Ivanović, 29, has revealed that the coaching sessions have been “very serious” under new boss Mourinho, who signed a four-year deal to return to Stamford Bridge last month.

“The management and coaching has been impressive, and all the work has a high intensity and is very serious, which is what we need for the games,” Ivanović said.

“A lot of the work is based on fitness and physicality but it is all specific to football and it is very good.”

He added: “For us players, this trip [to Asia] is about hard work because we have to get our base fitness for the rest of the season and give our best in every session to help ourselves.

“The fans here are crazy. Every year we come here it is nice to see this support. You can see there being more and more fans to welcome you each year, and it is impressive that they give so much and enjoy seeing us and cheering us.”
